i love salsa in school

  • Our innovative styleof teaching Salsa to children has proved extremely popular in the schools that we have worked in and we have found that including Salsa dancing as part of their PE Curriculum has had an extremely positive effect on the children…
  • The benefitsto the children include increased levels of fitness, confidence, teamwork, co-operation, agility.
  • Children progress from dancing individually to partner work which encourages social interaction and confidence.
  • As well as salsa dance the children are taught the history and roots of salsa music. This includes use of percussion instruments and lessons in African and Spanish songs
  • I Love Salsa in Schoolsencourage children to take part in competitions within the structure of the lesson i.e. ‘Last Man Standing’ which gives the children an added sense of enjoyment and achievement.
Production
In July 2003 I Love Salsa, together with the teachers, pupils and parents of Stepney Greencoat Primary School were very proud to present the first ever school Salsa production "The Origins of Salsa"& "Strictly Come Salsa".
The production was a culmination of a years' work with the children of Stepney Greencoat which included all aspects of learning Salsa from the basic dance moves to the origins and history of the music. The children totally encompassed all elements of the production and were involved in the direction and content.
The stage production took place over two nights in front of an audience of parents, teachers and guests. Through hard work and determination from the children, the show was an amazing success and all involved found it an extremely positive experience. A DVD of the show was produced and is available from the offices of I Love Salsa.

I Love Salsa is committed to continue and expand our work in this area and would be delighted to hear from any schools who would be interested in working with us at this very exciting time.
