UK Salsa Congress - The Next Generation

With still no word from organisers Salsa-UK on the fate of this years UK International Salsa Congress, it looks increasingly as if we are witnessing the passing of what has been the countrys most prestigious salsa dance event to date.
Congress always was the high point and the heart of the UK Salsa calendar. There were years where the party vibe was overwhelming, years when it was underwhelming. But for sheer heroic scale, this was the Big Daddy of the UK Salsa circuit, boldly going where no-one had ever gone before. It was without equal.
At the same time, Britfest the salsa congress of the North went the way of the Norwegian Blue a while ago. The demise of both events left a yawning gap.
In the meantime, new contenders for the throne have arisen. An ambitious new Latin Festival - Salsa Kingdom - is set on transplanting the heart of the UK Salsa Scene in the North. The organisers are intent on creating a fun festival with a party vibe and stonking live bands. With the early bird price of 100 running out on 5th July, this is the time to book: www.salsakingdom.co.uk or 07977 134 927. They have the vision and the passion for Latin music to bring a whole new spicy flava to the UK Salsa scene.
Rising from the ashes of Britfest is the Great British Salsa Experience (GBSEX). Pulling in top international dance instructors and performers including Santo Rico & Los Hermanos, Irene Miguel and more, this launches in Manchester, Friday 21st-Sunday 23rd November. To book: www.thegreatbritishsalsaexperience.com call: 00 44 (0) 161 881 4604. With Salsologys Emma Moore at the helm, this is bound to be a winner.
Ed, London Salsa Scene, salsa in Wigan, Chorley, Manchester, Fri 23 May 2008
